Most homeowners think a roof is just shingles nailed to plywood. The Keystone System approaches roofing differently. Instead of simply replacing worn shingles with more shingles, it installs a structural metal roofing system above the existing roof, creating a stronger, more efficient roofing structure.
The system uses AG panels installed over purlins, which creates an air space between the original roof and the new metal roof. That air gap is important. It allows heat to escape and reduces heat transfer into the home. During summer months, the metal panels also reflect a large portion of the sun’s UV radiation, helping reduce attic temperatures and potentially lowering cooling costs.
Because the panels sit on purlins rather than being fastened directly to the roof deck, the metal roof becomes a stand-alone roofing system. It’s not dependent on the old shingles underneath. The existing roof acts as an additional layer of protection and insulation while the new metal system becomes the primary weather barrier.
The AG panels themselves are a structural-grade product, not decorative sheet metal. They’re engineered for strength and durability while remaining much lighter than traditional asphalt shingles. Less weight means less stress on the structure of the home over time.
Another advantage of the panel design is ventilation. The ribbed profile of the panels helps promote airflow beneath the roof system, which can assist with moisture management and temperature control.
Fasteners are also a key part of the system. Keystone uses Pro-Z™ fasteners, which create a weather-tight seal and protect the washer from damage caused by over-driving—a common issue with standard metal roofing screws. These fasteners carry a 50-year warranty, meaning they’re designed to outlast the panels themselves.
The result is a roofing system built for longevity. While asphalt shingles often need replacement every couple of decades, the Keystone System provides a 40-year metal roofing solution designed to resist weather, reduce maintenance concerns, and improve the overall performance of the roof.
Instead of simply replacing a roof, the Keystone System upgrades it into a stronger, more efficient roofing system designed for the long term.
